Pilote d\u2019avions, il devient pilote de ballons et champion de France en 1979. Le 18 juillet 1980, il r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 conqu\u00e9rir le record du monde d\u2019altitude en montgolfi\u00e8re en franchissant les 12.301 m\u00e8tres. Un an plus tard, avec H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Dorigny, ils sont les premiers fran\u00e7ais (6\u00e8me sur 82 concurrents) aux championnats du monde de Battle Creek (USA).<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1734 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pilatre-de-rozier.com\/pbp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/Michel-Arnould_montgolfiere_legende_primagaz_pilatre-de-rozier.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"377\" height=\"264\" \/>L\u00e0 d\u00e9bute sa carri\u00e8re avec Primagaz et son projet, r\u00e9alis\u00e9 les 25 et 26 novembre 1981, d&rsquo;\u00e9tablir un record mondial de de distance et de dur\u00e9e. Un vol qui l&#8217;emm\u00e8nera de Ballina (Irlande) \u00e0 Saint-Christophe-en-Boucherie (Indre en France). Le ballon est un g\u00e9ant des airs de 15.000 m3.<\/h6>\n<h6>En 1984, avec sa co\u00e9quipi\u00e8re H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Dorigny (originaire de Reims), apr\u00e8s avoir n\u00e9goci\u00e9 avec la firme Raven Aerostar, fabricant majeur de montgolfi\u00e8res aux Etats-Unis, ils obtiennent la licence et l\u2019agr\u00e9ment de production en France. La soci\u00e9t\u00e9 est implant\u00e9e \u00e0 Reims et porte le nom de Manufacture Fran\u00e7aise de Montgolfi\u00e8res (MFM).<\/h6>\n<h6>Le 19 mai 1985, sur un meeting de montgolfi\u00e8res, en attendant le vol du soir, Michel essaie un nouveau mod\u00e8le d\u2019ULM, lui le passionn\u00e9 de \u201ctout ce qui vole\u201d. Las, il ne reviendra jamais de ce vol puisque l\u2019a\u00e9ronef percute la plan\u00e8te. Le pilote est tu\u00e9 sur le coup. C\u2019est un coup dur et la perte d\u2019un ami cher pour bon nombre d\u2019entre nous.<\/h6>\n<h6>Pour la petite histoire, j\u2019ach\u00e8te le 10\u00e8me ballon produit par MFM en juin 1985. Ce ballon porte le nom de \u201cNovasam\u201d, enseigne de l\u2019un de mes partenaires principaux. Un an plus tard l\u2019\u00e9quipe Pil\u00e2tre de Rozier et le conseil r\u00e9gional de Lorraine font construire le premier ballon \u00e0 porter les couleurs d\u2019une r\u00e9gion celle de la \u201cLorraine\u201d.<br \/>\nMFM ferme ses portes \u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1990. En 1992 na\u00eet une fabrique Pil\u00e2tre de Rozier avec le directeur technique de MFM Jacques Llopis.<\/h6>\n<hr \/>\n<h6>\ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udde7<em><span style=\"color: #993300\">\u00a0\u00a0<strong>&#8211; 35th anniversary of Michel Arnould&rsquo;s disappearance <\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n<h6><em style=\"font-family: inherit;font-size: 1em;font-weight: inherit\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">In May 1985, the ballooning community in France is in mourning with the disappearance of one of its greatest pilots.<br \/>\nBorn in 1944, <strong>Michel Arnould<\/strong> was not intended to become a hot air balloon pilot, and even less to make a career of it. But he did it much more, renowned for setting several records, being an excellent competitor, instructor and balloon manufacturer.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n<h6><em style=\"font-family: inherit;font-size: 1em;font-weight: inherit\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">Native from Ch\u00e2lons-sur-Sa\u00f4ne region, Michel worked for the Kodak company. Airplane pilot, he became balloon pilot and won the French Championship in 1979. On July 18, 1980, he succeeded in setting the world record for the highest ascent by crossing the altitude of 12.301 meters (40,358 ft). A year later, with H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Dorigny, they were the first French team (6th place out of 82 competitors) at the world championship in Battle Creek (USA).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><em style=\"font-family: inherit;font-size: 1em;font-weight: inherit\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">There began his career with Primagaz and his project carried out on 25 and 26 November 1981 to set a world record in distance and duration. Michel and H\u00e9l\u00e8ne flew indeed non-stop from Ballina (Ireland) to Saint-Christophe-en-Boucherie (France). Their balloon is a giant of the air with an enveloppe of 529,720 cubic feet.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n<h6><em style=\"font-family: inherit;font-size: 1em;font-weight: inherit\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">In 1984, with his teammate H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Dorigny (native from Reims), after negotiating with Raven Aerostar, a major hot-air balloon manufacturer in the United States, they obtained the licence et manufacturing approval in France. The company was located in Reims and named <\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #993300\">Manufacture Fran\u00e7aise de Montgolfi\u00e8res<\/span><em style=\"font-family: inherit;font-size: 1em;font-weight: inherit\"><span style=\"color: #993300\"> (MFM).<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n<h6><em style=\"font-family: inherit;font-size: 1em;font-weight: inherit\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">On May 19, 1985, while waiting for the evening flight of a balloon meeting, Michel tried a new model of ultralight aircraft, he was passionate in all flying machines. Alas, he will never return from this flight since the aircraft hits the planet. The pilot was killed instantly. It is a big blow and the loss of a dear friend for many of us.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n<h6><em style=\"font-family: inherit;font-size: 1em;font-weight: inherit\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">To cut a long story short, I bought the 10th balloon made in MFM in June 1985. <\/span><\/em><em style=\"font-family: inherit;font-size: 1em;font-weight: inherit\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">This balloon was called \u00ab\u00a0Novasam\u00a0\u00bb one of my main partners. A year later, the Pil\u00e2tre de Rozier team and the Lorraine Region ordered the first balloon to bear the colors of a region, that of \u00ab\u00a0Lorraine\u00a0\u00bb.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><em style=\"font-family: inherit;font-size: 1em;font-weight: inherit\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">MFM closed its doors at the end of the 1990s.
