November 21st current but also historical events oblige

We had been dreaming about it for almost a year. The screening of the film shot by Florian Braure (VIDEOPILLS) on the backstage of #GEMAB19.

The arrival of the pandemic has prevented us from planning an official theatrical release since the beginning of 2020. We are therefore choosing the digital channel with the broadcasting on YouTube. The date chosen is therefore November 21st, 2020, at 11:00 am. This date and time is a reminder that on November 21st, 1783, from Paris, Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier accompanied by the Marquis François d’Arlandes, from 11:00 in the morning prepared a historic flight. That of the first men to rise into the air and on board a hot-air balloon, invented on June 4th of the same year in Annonay (Ardèche) by the brothers Etienne and Joseph Montgolfier (the family was ennobled by Louis XVI to thank them for this discovery which launched aviation).

It should be remembered that at the moment of take-off, the envelope was somewhat torn and that it took a battalion of seamstresses to allow the take off almost two hours later. Thus the first 3 world records for distance, altitude gain and duration (20 km, 1000 m and 25 min) were set. And it was only on December 1st of the same year that the physicist Jacques Charles succeeded in raising his gas balloon (inflated with hydrogen).

After the French revolution, hot-air balloons disappeared and only gas balloons remained as military vehicles, then as fairground machines.

In 2020 we also celebrate the 60th anniversary of the “re-invention” of hot-air balloons by the Americans with Ed Yost and Don Piccard.

We wish you a good discovery of the reverse side of #GEMAB19.
