A hot air balloon record, but also of nationalities

Since 1989, no less than 54 nationalities have taken part in the Grand Est Mondial Air Ballons! This is more than a World Football Cup (32 participating countries), the Tour de France (34 nationalities represented), or the European Union (now with 27 member countries). With a little more perseverance, we could almost compete in the Olympic Games (205 nations) … I said “almost”.

Beyond the number of countries, the meeting of balloon enthusiasts brings together pilots from 6 continents (Europe, Africa, North and South America, Asia and Oceania), different cultures and a dozen languages spoken.

And despite this, when the pilots fly in the sky, surrounded by hundreds of balloons, there are no more language barriers, no more different cultures or borders. It is only hot air balloon enthusiasts who come from all over the world to experience exceptional flights and a unique event in the world.

Then of course, there are the great regulars of the event, except for the French (out of competition), we find on the podium the English, the Germans and the Belgians. But we had fun making a ranking of the most present nationalities at the event.

The #GEMAB, it is a place where the pilots got used to meet each other, to see good friends again, or to make new contacts. It is also an opportunity to exchange around the hot air balloon with pilots from all horizons, about each other’s burner preferences, about our favorite flights, or to discover photos of flights made in each one’s respective country.

One thing is sure, all pilots from all over the world are welcome at the Grand Est Mondial Air Ballons 🙂
