The weather is a key factor for the GEMAB

Each edition is different. There was one year with 18 flights out of 19 scheduled. One edition (in 2015) with only 8 out of 19 flights. Sometimes it is the morning flights that are spared, sometimes the evening ones. In 1989, when the GEMAB was launched, the organisers chose the end of July/beginning of August on the basis of particularly thorough weather studies. In 17 editions, the gamble has generally been successful, since in 32 years the average number of flights has been 13.4 out of 19. It is true that climate change often disrupts the weather and that we sometimes put on a jumper in the middle of summer. Fortunately, there are more summer periods.
