You have never flown at #GEMAB? 2023 will be your first time? We recommend you to read the following lines carefully. To get advice on your first time at Chambley, what better way than to give the floor to regular pilots? They have shared their opinions with us. We thank them!
10 recommendations to fly in Chambley with peace of mind and discover the event without stress:
- Book your accommodation in advance
Accommodations are filled very quickly. They are usually reserved 2 years in advance! Do not delay in finding your accommodation.
- Read carefully the documents sent by the organizer
Pilot’s RoadBook, schedules, obligations and prohibitions, radio frequency, aeronautical map… Make sure you have read all the key information.
- Be accompanied by experienced crew members
To participate in this adventure, it is important to be able to rely on people you can trust. Crew members who know the world of ballooning and who have already done some retrieving are a real plus to participate in the event. During the mass flights, it is essential that your crew members can indicate if you can take off.
- Arrive early for the evening flight
During the 10 days, nearly 500,000 people travel to watch the mass flights. The traffic becomes very difficult. So remember to arrive early enough not to miss the briefing and get stuck in traffic (we advise you to come no later than 5pm).
- Take your time
“It is better to regret being on the ground than to regret being in the air”. At Chambley, safety is the key word. We recommend you to take your time. Don’t be in a hurry to be the first in the air! Patience saves us from making mistakes.
If you are concerned about the mass effect, we invite you to leave after the first wave, so you can enjoy your flight. There are landing fields for everyone, Lorraine is known to be a paradise for landing in a balloon!
- Fly with an experienced pilot
It is always comforting to be well accompanied. An experienced pilot will be able to give you valuable advice on the area (landing zone, weather, good plans…).
- Know your limits
Just because other balloons are flying doesn’t mean you have to. Make your own decisions. Ask yourself “would I fly in these conditions at home?”.
