Festival International de ballons Château d’Oex is held in Switzerland. This event opens the balloon season. Over a long week, dozens of international pilots enjoy the most beautiful flights surrounded by snow. For ten years, the event hosts Bertrand Piccard. He took off from this area in 1999 for his world tour. With a memorable first flight (in 1978) from the valley, the town decided to go on. In 2012, the 34th edition is celebrated; it’s the oldest hot air balloon rallies in Europe.
