July 25th – A poetic line

26 Jul 2021

Yesterday morning, the whole airfield was in turmoil when the Flight Direction gave the green light for the setting up of the Great Line. The pilots rushed on the runway to line up their balloons. Dawn was showing up while the moon and the sun were meeting. The sky, which had been adorned with tones of pastel colors, seemed to come straight out of an impressionist painting. We could not have dreamed of a more beautiful setting for this year’s Great Line. 317 balloons were lined up and launched into the golden sky under the amazed eyes of the public. Never a few weeks ago could we have hoped for so many balloons given the sanitary conditions and the administrative difficulties caused by Brexit. One thing is sure, we hope with all our heart that the show will go on and on.

Editorial – Philippe Buron Pilâtre :

Let us not hide our joy. This morning’s flight that starts with an ascent in line and turns into a mass flight has embellished this edition. Towards Mars la Tour, towards the harvested field. A chance and a joy for the pilots. All day long we waited for the window, the one we secretly hope for, the one that reconciles us with the weather forecast. Alas, the wind did not drop and instead we were treated to the spectacle of the burners’ song. I had a confidence from the weather chief, he promised me that Monday would be better. I accept the augury and I invoke the most famous saints to give us the joy of seeing these multicolored bubbles illuminating the sky. To open the door to our dreams and to allow all those who dream of winning the air, to be able to do so without interruption until the end. Go on then, aim high ! We believe in it! We have suffered so much these last months that we deserve this reward.
