26th July – A day filled with emotions

27 Jul 2021

This Monday, July 26 was a day marked by emotion. It began in the early morning, when the envelopes inflated under a lilac sky. Then came a peaceful flight over the barely awakened nature. Lunch was an opportunity to celebrate the anniversary of Bob Sisk, our iconic American veteran. The afternoon was punctuated by his memories of the time when the base lived the American life; for a few moments, one could almost see the Star Spangled Banner flying over the airfield. The day finally ended with the burners singing their hearts out. The pilots gave their best to offer a show on the ground, as close as possible to the public. The atmosphere was festive on the Esplanade and even the gendarmes got a taste of the burners! Come on Aeolus, a little effort and our pilots will be back in the air.

I know, the weather isn’t always good. But we have to make the best of a bad job. For the moment, the mornings are saved and it’s a great joy! Don’t listen to the ominous meteorologists, we often are lucky and the #GEMAB is far from being achieved. There are years like this. But, in 2021, let’s taste the joy of having been brought together for this great celebration. And a big thank you to all the pilots who were willing to animate this end of evening, showing thousands of spectators that balloons are existing and that they can roar to share their passion. All that remains for us to hope is that gods will be favourables for days to come.
