From Fraternity to GEMAB

The event was born Fraternité 89 in July 1989. Then it became the World Aerostation Biennial in 1991, until 2001. It then (from 2003) took the name of Mondial Air Ballons and very quickly added the name of the main partner. In 2017, it became Grand Est Mondial Air Ballons with the acronym GEMAB. Another particularity for many editions, the official poster (the visual) contains the photo of the region’s balloon, but also the balloon of Pilâtre de Rozier of 1783 and the one that bears the colors of GEMAB. A discreet tribute to perpetuate the tradition and the attachment to the pioneer of the air.
