One of the best memories: the 1999 edition
It is rare to witness the total eclipse of the sun in your lifetime. In 1999, we were lucky enough to organise the Mondial at the time of a solar eclipse. Moreover, the planned route of this observation passed over Lorraine. Around midday, we had imagined a “night swelling in broad daylight”. What was not expected was the poor weather (rain) that day, which spoiled the view in many observation points in Lorraine, in particular. The only exception was over the Chambley airfield where the sky cleared for many minutes. And some balloons were able to stand up, despite the high level of instability.
