For the younger ones…

The Grand Est Mondial Air Ballons was born in July 1989 at the future airport of Metz Nancy Lorraine. This was on the occasion of the commemoration of the bicentenary of the French Revolution. The teams that had participated in the various Pilâtre de Rozier Challenges in Metz had already responded favourably to take on some of the activities. It will remain a strong moment on a ploughed and muddy ground, but an atmosphere exceeding all the hopes of the organisers. And as the first edition was a great media and popular success, the Regional Council wished to repeat the event in 1991 on the occasion of the opening of the airport. So what was supposed to be a one-shot event has become an expected and world-famous event.
