L’autrichien Félix Baumgartner a réussi, vendredi 16 mars, un saut en parachute depuis un ballon stratosphérique à 21.800 m d’altitude au-dessus de Roswell (Nouveau Mexique – USA). Le saut qui a duré 3 min 33 lui a permis d’atteindre 586 km/h.  Il s’agit d’une répétition pour tester capsule et combinaison car durant l’été prochain, Baumgartner (parrainé par RedBull) devrait s’attaquer au record de 102.800 pieds et dépasser, selon ses souhaits, le mur du son. L’actuel détenteur du record est le Colonel en retraite de l’US Air Force Joseph Kittinger pour avoir sauté depuis 31.300m le 16 Août 1960 en 4 min et demi à la vitesse de 988 km /h. Le Français Michel Fournier tente depuis 2002 de battre ce record. 

The Austrian Felix Baumgartner has succeeded on Friday, March 16th, a parachute jump from a stratospheric balloon to an altitude of 21,800 m above Roswell (New Mexico – USA) . The jump that lasted 3 min 33 sec allowed him to reach 586 km / h. This is a rehearsal to test a capsule and a combination for next summer, Baumgartner (sponsored by Red Bull) should address the record of 102,800 feet and beyond, according to his wishes, the sound barrier.
