The Gordon Bennett Cup is the oldest aeronautic competition. Created by James Gordon Bennett, founder of the Herald Tribune, the first edition takes place on September 30th 1906. The rule of this race reserved to gas balloons: go as far as possible, with no landing. The winning country has to organize the next edition. Except during wars or postwar years, the Gordon Bennett Cup took regularly place in Europe or USA.
