🇫🇷 Gagner la stratosphère et la traversée de l’Atlantique

En ce mois d’août, il y a 90 ans, Auguste Piccard, grand-père de Bertrand Piccard s’élève dans les airs à bord d’un ballon à gaz, atteignant l’altitude de 16.201 mètres (la stratosphère). Il a mis au point la première nacelle pressurisée qui donne naissance à l’aviation moderne. Un exploit incroyable qui entre dans le grand livre de l’aviation.

Toujours dans le monde de l’aérostation, il y a 44 ans, un équipage de 3 américains réussit la prouesse de traverser l’Atlantique en rozière depuis les Etats-Unis pour se poser en France après un périple de 137 heures et six minutes. Ils ont parcouru 5.001, 22 kilomètres. C’est pour moi l’un de mes plus beaux souvenirs de journaliste, alors débutant à l’Agence France Presse comme pigiste. Je couvre cet événement. Même si je suis passionné par cette discipline, je ne sais pas encore que je vais y consacrer une grande partie de ma vie.

In this month of August, 90 years ago, Auguste Piccard, Bertrand Piccard’s grandfather, rose into the air in a gas balloon, reaching an altitude of 16,201 meters (the stratosphere). He developed the first pressurized gondola which gave birth to modern aviation. An incredible feat that enters the great book of aviation. 

Still in the world of aerostation, 44 years ago, a crew of 3 Americans succeeded in a nonstop flight across the Atlantic aboard a rozière. Departing from the United States to land in France after a journey of 137 hours and six minutes. They flew 5.001, 22 kilometers. It is for me, one of my most beautiful memories as a journalist, then a beginner at Agence France Presse as a freelancer. I covered this event. Even if I am passionate about this discipline, I didn’t know yet that I will dedicate a big part of my life to it.
