🇫🇷 L’épreuve du solo

Qui de l’instructeur ou de l’élève pilote de montgolfière éprouve le plus de tension au moment du lâcher. Ce premier et dernier solo (sans doute) de la carrière d’un futur pilote. Et l’aboutissement pratiquement pour l’instructeur de la formation de l’élève pilote. Depuis 1986, j’ai dû participer à plus de 90 solos de garçons et de filles qui étaient jugés aptes à finir leur formation. Et chaque jour la même petite appréhension : ai je bien formé cet élève, que va t-il ressentir seul dans la nacelle, ai je mis assez de poids pour compenser l’absence de passagers. Quant à l’élève, il descend toujours du ballon avec un grand sourire et affirme que tout s’est bien passé. Quelques semaines après, au détour d’une conversation, il va néanmoins confier qu’il y a eu un petit serrement au niveau du cœur, mais une grande plénitude, accroché sous la bulle d’air chaud. Une seule fois, un élève a été pris en fin de vol par un petit thermique qui l’a baladé pendant quinze minutes au quatre coins du champ. Un moment d’éternité pour l’instructeur et sans doute pour le futur pilote. 

🇬🇧 The solo flight test

Who of the instructor or the student pilot feels the most tension at the moment of the take off. This first and last solo (probably) of the career of a future pilot. And the culmination of the student pilot’s training for the instructor. Since 1986, I have participated in more than 90 solos of boys and girls who were judged to be able to finish their training. And every time I had the same little apprehension: did I train this student well, what will he feel alone in the basket, did I put enough weight to compensate for the absence of passengers. As for the student, he/she always comes down from the balloon with a big smile and says that everything went well. A few weeks later, during a conversation, he will nevertheless confide that there was a little tightness in the heart, but a great fullness, hanging under the hot air bubble. Only once, a student was caught at the end of the flight by a small thermal that carried him around the field for fifteen minutes. A moment of eternity for the instructor and undoubtedly for the future pilot.
