🇫🇷 De la montgolfière et de la rozière

Si la Gordon Bennett demeure la plus ancienne compétition aéronautique au monde et qu’elle vient de se dérouler avec la victoire de la famille Eimers (père et fils), d’autres compétitions font rêver les pilotes. Comme les championnats nationaux, d’Europe ou comme actuellement la 24è édition du championnat du monde de montgolfières en Slovénie. Un petit coup de chapeau souvenir adressé à la Chrysler Cup, il y a 30 ans, qui fut une grande première réussie au-dessus de l’Atlantique. 

Cinq équipages français participent au 24è championnat du monde de montgolfières en Slovénie  du 16 au 23 septembre. Clément Seigeot, récent champion de France, a de bonnes chances de bien se classer. Les quatre autres compétiteurs, dont une femme, Laure de Coligny peuvent également figurer dans les 10 premiers. 

Souvenons nous il y a 30 ans (le 16 septembre 1992) que cinq rozières (combinaison de montgolfières et de ballons à gaz) ont traversé l’Atlantique de l’Etat du Maine à l’Europe. C’était le Chrysler Transatlantic Challenge. Parmi les pilotes (et l’équipage vainqueur) on note la présence de Wim Verstraeten et Bertrand Piccard. Pour certains, il a fallu six jours pour franchir l’Atlantique. L’équipage vainqueur a réussi en 144h27 min, se posant en Espagne.

🇬🇧 Hot air ballooning and rozière

If the Gordon Bennett remains the oldest aeronautical competition in the world and that it has just taken place with the victory of the Eimers family (father and son), other competitions make pilots dream. Like the national and European championships or like the 24th edition of the World Hot Air Balloon Championship in Slovenia. A small tribute to the Chrysler Cup, 30 years ago, which was a great first over the Atlantic.

Five French crews are participating in the 24th World Hot Air Balloon Championship in Slovenia from September 16 to 23. Clément Seigeot, recent French champion, has fair chances to rank well. The four other French competitors, including a woman, Laure de Coligny, can also be in the top 10.

Let’s remember 30 years ago (September 16, 1992) that five rozières (combination of hot air balloon and gas balloon) crossed the Atlantic from Maine to Europe. It was the Chrysler Transatlantic Challenge. Among the pilots (and the winning crew) we note the presence of Wim Verstraeten and Bertrand Piccard. For some, it took six days to cross the Atlantic. The winning crew succeeded in 144h27 min, landing in Spain.
